As promised, the pile of dirt and big hole

Complete with workers diligently working on the weekend!

Where did the Children's Area go?

When you walk into the main part of the library, you can't help but notice the entire children's section is missing! If you look about 20 feet to your left, you'll see that it has been moved into what was the periodical and reading area. It's still sunny and friendly, just a bit cozier.

We have turned what was the General Purpose room into a comfortable reading area, with the magazines and newspapers there, along with the soft chairs and a lamp. The children's computers are there as well, although we ask that parents stay with any child under 10 years old while they are in that room.

Tearing down the front

After building a temporary wall inside the General Purpose room, the construction team tore down the front wall. Everyone driving by can't help but notice that all the trees, shrubs, lawn and assorted greenery is gone as well. Many of the specimens went to good homes, and when the project is finished there will be new landscaping added.

Come watch a giant hole be dug on Tuesday!

On Tuesday, May 17, there will be no confusion as to what's going on at the library: construction! A giant hole, roughly 8 feet deep by 30 feet wide, will be dug in front of the library. Hopefully it won't rain too much!

Meet our construction superintendents

Terry Brown and David Blackwell install a fence outside the Madison County Master Gardener's Victory Garden. The shed and part of the garden fence will be relocated due to the construction of additional parking spaces but the majority will be unaffected.
Erosion control and tree save fences have been erected. Inside work is currently restricted to the General Purpose room which is to be converted into the new Children's Area.
